THE HOT AIR BALLOONING EXPERIENCE

> Where does the experience take place?

Cappadocia

Towering fairy chimneys, rock-cut caves, subterranean cities and rocky valleys that undulate as far as the eye can see. This is what awaits you in the uniquely beautiful and ever so slightly surreal land of Cappadocia in Eastern Turkey.

The distinctive landscape is a result of ancient volcanic eruptions that layered the terrain with soft, porous rock. Over time, nature has artfully eroded the rock into a series of intriguing and comical shapes, most famously the mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys that are scattered throughout the rocky valleys.

But nature isn’t the only one with a hand in shaping the landscape. Man, too, has played a role in transforming the region into the fascinating place it is today. Age-old civilisations have carved cave houses, churches and even entire underground cities into the soft rock where they lived for hundreds of years. And while these rock-cut dwellings are no longer inhabited, they have since been transformed into chic cave hotels that provide an insight into troglodyte life with a luxury twist.

One thing is for certain, you’re unlikely to ever have seen anything like it. Unless of course you’ve journeyed with us to Matera on the Dolce Vita Experience!

THE HOT AIR BALLOONING EXPERIENCE

> When does the experience run?

April to October.

Winter in Cappadocia runs from November to March bringing with it extremely cold temperatures and snow that makes ballooning impossible and the region difficult and unpleasant to visit. Spring, summer and autumn are far more favourable weather-wise and provide ideal conditions to take to the skies which is why we only run the Hot Air Ballooning Experience from the beginning of April up until the end of October.

For more information on how the months of the season compare please see below.

> When is the best time to travel?

April & May

Early April can play host to some windy days and unpredictable weather, which increases the chance of balloon ride cancellations. By the end of the month and throughout May, however, the weather is idyllic with sunny blue skies and warm daytime temperatures ranging from a very comfortable 20 to 25 degrees celsius making it ideal for both ballooning and exploring.

June, July & August

Summertime in Cappadocia provides perfect conditions for ballooning with sunny, dry and hot days so you’d be very unlikely to experience a cancellation during this time. From the end of July to the end of August the region can be extremely hot with daytime temperatures easily reaching 40 degrees celsius however the heat wave usually passes after a few weeks.

September & October

With warm sunny days, cool evenings and beautiful sunsets, visiting Cappadocia in the autumn is a wonderful experience. As with the beginning of the spring, however, the closer to the end of October you travel the more likelihood that your flight may be cancelled due to bad weather.

> When are the experience dates?

Once you’ve decided on the dates you’d like to travel, head over to the BOOK NOW tab and fill out the enquiry form with all the required details. Once submitted, we will get back to you with confirmation and/or next steps within 24 hours.

THE HOT AIR BALLOONING EXPERIENCE

> Why do you recommend this experience?

The Balloon Ride

Nothing quite prepares you for the magic that is soaring above the spectacular lunar landscape of Cappadocia in a hot air balloon at sunrise alongside hundreds of other colourful balloons. With a glass of champagne to toast your flight and your very own personalised certificate to take home and treasure at the end, the experience is romantic, magical and absolutely unforgettable.

So what has hot air ballooning in Cappadocia got over the rest of the world? Here are a few reasons to sway you:

Volume of Balloons: 65% of the world’s commercial balloon flights take place in Cappadocia and up to 150 balloons might be soaring through the air at one time. Witnessing so many other balloons in the sky while you fly makes the experience even more exhilarating and magical.

Climate: The warm and pleasant weather in Turkey increases your chances of flying. Balloons fly 301 days in the year giving Cappadocia one of the highest success rates in the world. It also makes for pretty wonderful weather – glorious sunshine and clear blue skies.

Landscape: Cappadocia’s moonlike landscape makes the most spectacular backdrop for a ballooning experience. With incredible rock formations and volcanic valleys the views from the balloon are as unique as they are beautiful.

Cave Hotels

What better way to experience troglodyte life than to stay in your very own cave hotel in Cappadocia? Expect chic design, modern functionality and luxury touches combined with the intimacy and cool interior afforded by the thick cave walls. It’s all part of the experience

Istanbul

Exotic east meets modern west in Turkey’s vibrant capital which stretches across two continents. Istanbul is one of our all-time favourite cities, throbbing with atmosphere and brimming with cultural treasures including the iconic Blue Mosque, the Ottoman Topkapi Palace and the fascinating Haghia Sophia. While the sights are unmissable, what we love most about Istanbul is soaking up the energy, haggle for spices and trinkets at the bustling Grand Bazaar, strolling along the sparkling Bosphorous at night or enjoy an apple tea and some indulgent turkish delight watching the world go by.
