Inn on Balaban

Set atop a mountainous ridge at the end of a winding bumpy path, Inn on Balaban is the epitome of the perfect isolated countryside retreat deep in the heart of wild and wonderful Transylvania. Decorated in typical Romanian farmhouse style, the Inn’s exterior features beautiful traditional shingle roofs and tiny eye-like windows overlooking the rolling valleys punctuated with wooden barns and perfect haystacks looming under the moody Carpathian Mountains.

Each of the Inn’s collection of eleven rooms is beautifully decorated with rural Romanian antiques and  refurbished peasant furniture including the colourful hand-painted wooden bed frames that come topped with comfortable white linens and bedspreads. The bathrooms boast underfloor heating and the large communal living room is in keeping with the rustic style of the Inn and comes complete with an open fireplace and comfortable sofas where you can relax after dinner with your head buried in one of the library’s books on Transylvania and the surrounding area.

Families are well catered for at Inn on Balaban with family suites made up of adjoining rooms and the Peasant House which features three separate bedrooms for families of up to six people.

Breakfast and dinner are served in true Romanian style with tasty, home cooking, authentic hospitality and a shot of palinka, the fiery plum brandy that will blow your socks off! In the morning you’ll be treated to a rich traditional breakfast and a three course evening meal is served in the dining room accompanied by a lovely selection of local wines.

The perfect place for soul-searching and embracing a slower, more rural way of life.
