Slovenia Tours & Trips: Discover the Green Heart of Europe

Tucked between the Alps and the Adriatic, Slovenia is a small country with a vast soul. A land of fairy-tale lakes, rolling vineyards, vibrant cities and alpine meadows, it offers a tapestry of natural beauty and cultural charm that feels almost too good to be true. But what makes Slovenia even more special is the ease with which you can explore it all. In just one trip, you can hike in the mountains, swim in the sea, sip wine in a sun-drenched valley, and wander cobbled lanes beneath Baroque spires — all without rushing.

At Untravelled Paths, our Slovenia tours are crafted to showcase the very best of the country — not just the famous spots, but also the lesser-known corners that make travel truly memorable. We believe in slower, deeper journeys that immerse you in local culture, nature, and tradition. Whether you're looking for an active adventure or a peaceful escape, Slovenia delivers.

Why Visit Slovenia?

Slovenia is the kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve left. It’s compact but wildly diverse, where every corner seems to hide a new surprise — a turquoise river, a medieval castle, a vineyard stretching into the distance.

Its landscapes are clean and green, protected by a deep-rooted national love for nature. From the Julian Alps to the Adriatic Coast, Slovenia has preserved its natural wonders and traditions with care, making it one of Europe’s most sustainable travel destinations.

Then there's the people. Warm, welcoming, and proud of their heritage, Slovenians love to share stories over home-cooked meals and glasses of local wine. With English widely spoken and hospitality at the heart of the culture, it’s easy to feel at home.

Highlights of Our Slovenia Tours

Every itinerary we create is designed to be more than just a checklist of sights. We want you to experience Slovenia — to feel the fresh alpine air, taste the regional flavours, and hear the stories that make each village and valley unique.

Lake Bled & Bohinj: Alpine Beauty at Its Finest

No trip to Slovenia is complete without a visit to Lake Bled, with its iconic island church and cliff-top castle. But we always go one step further. You’ll also venture to Lake Bohinj, less famous but even more serene — a glacial lake nestled in the Triglav National Park, surrounded by forests and peaks.

Here, you can take a rowboat to the island, hike to nearby waterfalls, or simply breathe in the alpine stillness.

Ljubljana: Europe’s Loveliest Little Capital

Charming, walkable, and packed with character, Ljubljana is a city you’ll fall for instantly. It’s full of outdoor cafes, leafy riverbanks, and bridges that seem made for slow wandering. During our stay, you'll get to know its hidden courtyards, lively markets, and street art — all guided by locals who know its soul.

We also leave time to explore at your own pace. Whether it’s a trip to the castle, a quiet gallery, or a glass of wine beside the Ljubljanica River, Ljubljana invites you to slow down and savour it.

Triglav National Park: A Playground for Nature Lovers

Named after the country’s highest peak, Triglav National Park is Slovenia’s outdoor heartland. Think limestone gorges, mountain meadows, wild rivers, and dramatic valleys. It’s where we take you for scenic drives, light hikes, and the kind of panoramic views that stop you in your tracks.

Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or just want to dip your toes into the wilderness, we’ll guide you to the most breathtaking — and peaceful — corners of the park.

Coastal Slovenia: Piran and the Adriatic Charm

Slovenia may only have 46km of coastline, but it more than makes up for it in charm. On our tours, we visit Piran, a picture-perfect seaside town where terracotta roofs tumble down to a Venetian harbour. You’ll wander ancient streets, taste fresh seafood, and soak up Adriatic sunsets without the crowds of Italy or Croatia.

Nearby Koper offers a more local flavour, with its lively squares and markets, while salt pans and nature reserves add ecological interest to the coast.

Hidden Villages and Wine Country

Some of the most magical moments on our Slovenia tours happen in places you’ve never heard of — tiny hilltop villages, tucked-away wine cellars, and countryside lanes where time slows right down.

In regions like Vipava Valley and Karst, you’ll meet winemakers, try local varietals, and learn about Slovenia’s deep-rooted food culture. Think hearty stews, artisan cheeses, and desserts like potica — all enjoyed in the company of those who made them.

SLOVENIA ADVENTURES

When to Visit Slovenia

One of the great joys of visiting Slovenia is that it offers something beautiful in every season. Whether you're drawn to sun-drenched vineyards or snow-dusted mountains, there’s a time of year that will match your style of travel perfectly.

Spring (April to June)

Spring is when Slovenia truly comes alive. The snow begins to melt, meadows fill with wildflowers, and hiking trails open up across the Julian Alps. This is the perfect time for walking holidays, sightseeing without crowds, and exploring the countryside while it’s lush and green. Ljubljana buzzes with early summer energy, and outdoor cafes return to full swing.

Summer (July to August)

If you love warm weather and long days, summer is a vibrant and lively time to visit. The lakes are ideal for swimming and paddleboarding, the coast is basking in sunshine, and festivals bring music and art to the streets. It’s also high season, so popular spots like Lake Bled can get busy — but with our routes and timing, we make sure you still enjoy moments of tranquillity.

Autumn (September to October)

Autumn in Slovenia is something special. The forests turn golden, the vineyards are ripe for harvest, and the pace of life slows just enough to make it feel like you have the country to yourself. This is a fantastic time for wine lovers and photographers, and the mild temperatures make it ideal for walking, cycling or road-tripping through the hills.

Winter (November to March)

While our core Slovenia Experience tours run from spring to autumn, we can arrange custom winter trips too. Think snow-covered lakes, Christmas markets in Ljubljana, or husky sledding in the mountains. It’s quieter, more intimate, and brimming with festive charm.

Responsible Travel in Slovenia

Slovenia isn’t just beautiful — it’s also one of the greenest countries in Europe, both literally and in terms of sustainability. It was the first country to be declared a “Green Destination” by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, and it’s a place where eco-conscious travel isn’t a trend — it’s a way of life.

At Untravelled Paths, we fully embrace this ethos. Every Slovenia trip we offer is designed with care for the environment and for local communities.

We work directly with locally owned guesthouses, family-run wineries, and independent guides, ensuring that your travel spend benefits the people who call this place home. We also avoid overtourism by travelling in small groups and exploring beyond the usual hotspots.

And for every booking, we plant a tree in your name through our partnership with the World Land Trust, helping to protect biodiversity and combat climate change — a small but meaningful gesture toward a more sustainable future.

FAQs

Do your trips always run?

Yes! As soon as we have confirmed availability for the experience you're interested in and you have been booked on, the experience is guaranteed to go ahead. We never cancel trips, so there is nothing you should worry about.

What if I have to cancel a trip?

Sadly, our trips become fully non-refundable six weeks before travel. If you cancel more than six weeks in advance and have already paid in full, you will be refunded 75% (the 25% deposit is non-refundable). Depending on the case and how far in advance you need to cancel, we might be able to move your booking to a different date, subject to availability.

Can you offer private trips?

If group travel is not your thing, or you'd like to add other elements to our current itineraries, we'd be happy to offer you a private tailored trip to suit your needs. Simply drop us an email and our team will get planning! Please note that during peak periods such as the festive period or half-term holidays, this option might not be available.

Can I combine trips?

We'd encourage you to do so! Depending on the location and what you are interested in, most our trips can be combined. These can be found in the Trip Combos section at the bottom of each experience page.

I can't see *country* on your trips list!

Ever-expanding, we're always researching new locations to spice things up. As we prefer to hand-pick everything from accommodations to guides and build our own experiences, setting up a new location might take some time, but we're keeping busy and have a long list of new experiences we want to share with you all. If you don't want to miss out on any news, make sure to subscribe to our newsletter using the form at the bottom of this page.

Do you outsource your guides?

All our guides have been carefully handpicked and they will work hard so you can have a memorable experience. When working with third party partners, they have been tried and tested to ensure the same standard.

Can I request a specific guide?

Our team is busy running the trips, doing research and managing the operational side of the business. Because of this, the schedule has to be carefully planned in advance, so we cannot guarantee your trip will be led by your preferred guide. However, all our guides receive raving 5* reviews and you'll be sure to receive an exceptional service no matter who will be running your trip.

What about return guests?

If you've travelled with us in the past 18 months, we'd be happy to see you again. Because of this, you are entitled to a 10% discount on most our other experiences. Please note that there are a select few experiences where the discount does not apply, so get in touch with our enquiries team to double-check!

Are you protected?

Yes! We are fully bonded offering protection to our guests in the unlikely event of our financial failure.

Do you offer insurance?

While we do not offer insurance cover as a part of our experience, we highly recommend True Traveller, which offers tailored package covers. Our team members have personally used them as they specialize in adventure travel and you can create your own insurance plan, without any add-ons that are irrelevant to your trip.
