As we start getting our vaccinations, infection rates globally drop, vaccination passports are discussed, whisper it quietly but international travel might just be on the horizon. So, albeit a little tentatively, we thought we’d look forward and explore our best travel destinations for September when hopefully many of us might be able to travel. At the very least it’s healthy to dream!
“An earthly paradise of snow-capped peaks, turquoise-green rivers and Venetian-style coastline combined with pretty architecture, charming rustic culture and sophisticated cuisine.“
Panorama of beautiful Piran over Adriatic Sea, Slovenia
Slovenia is a special and welcoming place to travel, with architecturally grand, cultured cities, and lush pine-forested countryside, perfect for hiking and biking in summer and skiing in winter. Its good looks draw comparisons with Switzerland but far lighter on the wallet, offering tremendous value. Imbued with fantastic, scraggy mountains, turquoise rivers and silver lakes, vast subterranean caves, and just enough medieval castles to conjure up a fairy tale or two, Slovenia is one of those destinations you hope to visit again and again. "Discover the country’s colourful medieval towns, stunning rural landscape, legends of Dracula as well as its wild inhabitants from brown bears to the birds of the Danube Delta.“
Romania is truly one of Europe’s hidden gems, offering far more than just the legend of Dracula! Yes, the spooky castles pitched on rocky hilltops are certainly vampire-worthy but the only real fangs you’re likely to be exposed to here are those belonging to the wild bears, wolves and lynx that roam the Carpathian Mountains. In addition to the wildlife, this incredibly diverse country offers impressive scenery, colourful medieval towns and a way of life that at times seems little changed since the Middle Ages. Morocco offers an incredibly diverse and heady mix of cultures and scenery. With stunning mountains, buzzing cities and endless deserts, the country has so much to offer and seems to change with every visit. A fascinating melting pot of cultures and religion, you’ll be immersed in cultural influences from around the world, architectural marvels and tons of historical intrigue. Magical, mysterious and utterly captivating. This is the ultimate destination if you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience and memories to treasure for years ahead. Find out more…
“With its rippling, dramatic mountains and pristine beaches, lands littered with historical Roman ruins and pretty Ottoman towns, Albania remains largely undiscovered.”
A quarter of a century after throwing off the shackles of communism, Albania’s stunning mountain scenery, crumbling castles, boisterous capital and dreamy beaches rivalling any in the Mediterranean continue to enchant. Most never see the alluring azure lakes or the picturesque valleys occupied by immensely hospitable locals, and instead bypass the country for its far more popular neighbours. But hurry here, because as word gets out about what Albania is hiding, the still-tiny trickle of tourists threatens to become a flood. Find out more…
“Enjoy the clear waters of the bay of Kotor, explore the venetian towns and travel deep in the mountains for the dramatic scenery and beautiful, remote rural ethno villages.“
Montenegro is renowned for its beaches and idyllic old towns that make the coastline. Its most precious jewel however is the phenomenally photogenic Kotor which sits just a little inland at the end of a fjord-like bay. Beach-fringed Budva is the other real highlight, but you should also try to make time for the ruins of Stari Bar. Away from the coast, pleasures are mainly confined to the mountains, particularly the spectacular national park of Durmitor, while the old Montenegro’s largest lake is a bird watching paradise.
